Under-13 Football League: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-5 St Loman's 1-6

The weather conditions may have been miserable, the underfoot conditions difficult but the under-13 footballers of Shamrocks and St. Loman’s served up a cracking league encounter in Springfield on Friday evening with a late fisted goal helping the home side to a 2-5 to 1-6 victory.

Tom McCaul’s heroics between the posts and stout-hearted defending by Shay Leavy, Sean Dooley, Carl Keane and Conor Glynn helped the home side to just about repel the frequent Loman’s attacks in the closing stages while Colm Clinton, Scott Farrelly and Oliver Keane competed fiercely against the powerful Michael Brennan, Jack Daly and the stylish Cathal Kilmurray in the central positions.

In attack, Darragh Daly, first half goal scorer Jamie Timoney and Eoin Reddin won crucial possession while Theo Kelly notched vital scores. The strong running Shane Canning, the tigerish Paudie Slevin, Harry Brennan and Luke Fitzsimons were also prominent for the visitors.

Well done to both sets of players and the respective management teams.

The Shamrocks’ squad was as follows: Tom McCaul, Darragh McCabe, Conan Kelly, Kian Newcombe, Alfie Rock, Pau Dooley, Manus Kelly, Conor Matthews, Ruairi Thornton, Fionn Ledwith, Shay Leavy, Eddie Leavy, MJ Burke, Conor Glynn, Colm Clinton, Darragh Daly, Jamie Timoney, Theo Kelly, Scott Farrelly, Sam Phillips, Oliver Keane, Carl Keane, Eoin Reddin, Dylan Hanly, Cian Traynor, Killian Hand, John Cleary, Evan Nohilly, Sean Dooley, Jacob Duncan and Cian McNamee

ACL Div. 1: Mullingar Shamrocks 1-11 Shandonagh 1-4

The good league form continued with this merited victory over Shandonagh played in Shandonagh on Saturday evening with both sides significantly understrength. Playing with the aid of a significant wind, Shamrocks led by 0-7 to 1-2 at the interval after generally dominating the first half but a number of wides and the concession of a penalty expertly converted by Brian Kavanagh were damaging to the Shamrocks cause. But the sending off of Darren Mnguni was also of significance and a set back for Shandonagh. Zach Aherne and Jordan Warde kicked the early points before Ryan Donnelly replied for Shandonagh. Jordan added a third point and Ross Corroon a fourth. This score began when David Gavin won possession in the fullback line and with referee Barry Nea playing advantage the ball was moved quickly downfield with Ollie MacNamara, Zach Aherne and Jordan Warde combining to create the opportunity converted by Ross. Brian Kavanagh's penalty was followed by a point from Caelum Faughnan to give Shandonagh the lead (1-2 to 0-4) Conor O'Brien, who covered acres of ground, popped up to touch a bouncing ball over for the equalising point which followed by points from Alan Cashman and Dillon Matthews to secure the interval lead.

It looked precarious but Mullingar Shamrocks were a different entity in the second half and dominated, a dominance that included some great bouts of possession football that ended with the essential conversions. It began almost immediately when the Shandonagh defence was carved open and KIlian Daly was taken down for a penalty which Jordan Warde brilliantly converted. Lorcan Smyth kicked a fine point off his left boot, Jordan added two more to set up the victory. Brian Kavanagh pointed twice but John O'Reilly had the final say with a spectacular effort that split the posts to make the final score 1-11 to 1-4.

Mullingar Shamrocks: Eoin Doran; Dillon Matthews [0-1] (Niall Hardiman), Efe Siode, Ryan Blundell; David Coyne, David Gavin, Marc Eivers; Alan Cashman [0-1] (John O'Reilly 0-1), Zach Aherne (0-1); Killian Daly, Conor O'Brien (0-1), Emmet Walsh (Neil Hannigan); Jordan Warde (1-4), Ross Corroon [0-1] (Shane Ormsby), Ollie MacNamara (Lorcan Smyth 0-1)

ACL Div. 6: Mullingar Shamrocks 1-20 Delvin 1-5

What can only be considered a very strong Mullingar Shamrocks team were too good for Delvin in this ACL Div. 6 League match played in Spngfield on Saturday evening. The decision to maintain the Under-17 Minor grade has benefitted Shamrocks as it allows several who will celebrate their eighteenth birthday this year play in the ACL and a number of these players, who might otherwise be lost to the game, line out in this match. Two more say game time against Shandonagh in the ACL Div. 1. The lineout against Delvin also featured some players who have given extraordinary service to the club. One of these players, Ciaran Curley opened the scoring with a classy point and at the interval Shamrocks held a lead of 1-9 to 0-3 with Ciaran Curley also netting the lone goal. Luke McCabe's point before the interval is also worthy of note.

On resumption the woodwork foiled what was perhaps Shamrocks best move of the match but Paddy Joyce's final shot smashed off the post. Shamrocks added another eleven points to their total and at the final whistle were comfortable winners.

And all 1-20 was scored from play; this was one of those rare occasions when scorable frees were marked absent.

Mullingar Shamrocks: Killian White; Conor McEntee, Conor Kelly, Dylan Carey (0-1); Dylan Franzoni, Jack Kelly, William O'Reilly; Donal O'Donoghue (0-3), Pearse Corroon; Paddy Joyce (0-3), Gary Corroon (0-5), Matthew Ryan (0-1); Luke McCabe (0-4), Ciaran Curley (1-1), David Culkin (0-1). Also: Conor Fitzpatrick, Edro Siode, Aaron Russell (0-1). Under-15s win in Athlone
