ACFL Division 5: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-18, The Downs GAA Club 1-11
Gary Corroon and Ritchie Daly worked hard for this game and fielded the strongest selection possible as victory was essential to give us a chance to survive in this division which is seen as important for next year when many of our Minor team steps up to adult football. Playing in Div.5 will be important for the development of these players.
It was mission accomplished in Springfield as Shamrocks recorded a ten-point victory over The Downs. Shane Ormsby dominated midfield throughout and kicked four points as well. Aaron Purcell brought assurance to the defence which was solid all night. Despite the 2-18 clocked on the scoreboard the Mullingar Shamrocks forward line were wasteful enough and could have added a bit more to the total. Trevor Keena was in flying form and kicked 0-6 in what was a very good win with Micheál Curley making a comeback to active service and really settling the game when he stepped on to the pitch. Conor Fagan, another player coming back from injury was also lively when introduced.
We play Castledaly in the final match of the division on Tuesday next 18 June.
