Ivan’s Return to Springfield … 

We were delighted to welcome Ivan O’Connor back to Springfield on Sunday last and several of his old friends from the Glory Days  were on hand to greet the man who lined out for Shamrocks for the duration of his football career. Our own Dunmore native was one of those present to welcome his fellow parishioners to town.  

Ivan was part of the management team of the Dunmore MacHales minor football team that played Mullingar Shamrocks in a challenge match. And, would you believe Ivan was the stats man for the team and those of a certain vintage will remember that Ivan’s dad, Mick  (‘MIcko’) pioneered statistical gathering back in the day. It’s a fascination that’s obviously in the O’Connor genes. 

Ivan is unique in the history of Mullingar Shamrocks club for his almost complete county medal  collection that includes Under-12, Under-14, Under-16 and Minor medals. Ivan’s adult medals include Under-21, Intermediate, Senior ‘B’, Junior ‘B’ and the collection is topped off with  5 Senior medals. 

Ivan has sent his thanks and appreciation for the welcome and hospitality shown to the Dunmore MacHales travelling party on Sunday.
