Áine's Hickey's Book for LARCC a big seller in Springfield
Saturday morning was a very special morning in Springfield as we hosted Áine Hickey and her mum Marie and auntie Evelyn who organised a pop-up shop to sell her wonderful book We All Have Feelings. The book is a remarkable piece of writing by 10-year-old Áine who not only wrote but also illustrated the book. Áine’s Under-10 LGF playing colleagues were on hand as were her coaches Karen, Sophie and Roisín. Áine told us that she has been writing since she was six years of age and has been inspired by the Harry Potter books and Diary of a Wimpy Kid.
Áine's Hickey's Book for LARCC was written by Áine as a gesture of thanks for the wonderful support provided by the LARCC Cancer Support Centre to the Hickey family when Maire was receiving treatment for her cancer. As Marie Hickey has written in the Foreword to We All Have Feelings 'We would not have made the journey through treatment and recovery without the team in LARCC ... They scooped my family up when when we we needed it most and guided us through the two years of treatment anticipating our needs before they arose, ultimately making the process smoother. They patched us up when we fell apart and minded our da ughter when she was having a very tough time'.
It is nice to see Mullingar Shamrocks mentioned in the Special Thanks section, it provides some justification for Our Family. Friendly Club claim.
But that is us being a little bit selfish, a characteristic unfamiliar to the HIckey family and Áine who epitomise the virtue of Giving Something Back
