Under-16 LGF Div.2 Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 0-9 Moate 3-21
Mullingar Shamrocks second round championship game ended in defeat last Tuesday. Despite a very strong first half performance and, in the absence of several key players, the girls eventually ran out of steam against a very strong Moate team, who’s outside shooting was very impressive.
The first half was fairly even with some strong work from our midfield and halfbacks, giving Abigail Molloy good opportunities in front of goal; a couple of points could easily have ended up in the Moate net. Mollie Maguire was unlucky to not get on the score sheet, and Niamh McDermott got a great point after good build up play which left us 5 points down at halftime.
The second half started well with the girls moving the ball well, but a couple of overplayed passes caused turnovers in the middle of the field and were duly punished by the opposition.
Our goalkeeper Lavinia Matthews and full back Sarah Ford were magnificent throughout and deserve special mention. The girls continued to work hard all through the second half but with little reward. They can be very
proud of their efforts so far after two games. Also, a big thank you to the U14 coaches and players who have helped us out recently.
