Championship Weekend …
A big weekend of championship action throws in this Friday evening at 7.30 in Springfield when we take on the unbeaten The Downs in the Clarke’s Bar Junior I Football Championship. A win will probably secure a place in the knock-out stages of the championship. (The two clubs meet in the Under-13 League in Springfield at 6.30).
The journey continues on Saturday in Kilbeggan when Kilbeggan Shamrocks provide the opposition in the Clarke’s Bar Junior II championship and no doubt Gary will have searched the highways and byways to assemble a decent squad. Referee Ray Farrelly will be throwing in the ball at 2.00 pm.
And then on Sunday in TEG Cusack Park at 7.00 we have the BIG one … Round 3 of the Shay Murtagh Precast Senior Football Championship between ourselves and Garrycastle … a must win outing for both clubs if they wish to contend for the play-off places and avoid becoming engaged in a struggle to avoid the R word. ‘Traditionally we don’t beat Garrycastle’ our resident statistician advised us last year and as Con Houlihan once said tradition was right. Subject to a recount, we have played Garrycastle 19 times in the championship and only won on four occasions and drew twice. Do the maths to calculate how many times we have defeated the men in red and green.
Can we reverse the trend on Sunday evening?
