Under-16 LGF Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 4-7 Goldsmith 4-4

Our Under-16 girls began their Division 2 championship campaign with a great first round win over Goldsmiths in a match held in the Harbour field on Tuesday evening.

Working from a panel of 17 players, the girls battled hard for the 60 minutes and survived 2 sin-bins to just pip a terrific Goldsmith team. It was a very evenly matched contest throughout with all 17 playing their part.

Leading by the minimum margin at halftime, Shamrocks kicked on in the second half when Abigail Molloy’s strike rattled the net only for Goldsmith girls to strike back immediately. Linda Raeside and Aideen Langtry scored points to keep the visitors at arms’ length going into the last few minutes and with some strong defending, we held on for a brilliant victory.

There was a great spread of scores from the girls with Mollie Maguire, Caoimhe Farrell, Zara Corroon, Áine Creagh and Abigail Molloy all finding the target.

Well done to the whole team!
