Clarke’s Bar Junior II Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-7 Killucan 1-8
A narrow and hard-earned victory for our Junior II ensemble against Killucan completed a great weekend of championship football for the club as we won our three championship matches at adult level. When did this happen before for Shamrocks, if ever?
Gary Corroon and Andrew Shaw scored the vital goals and we missed two one-on-one goal chances as well when one of our great warriors Shane Colleary dribbled one fractionally wide and Mark Shaw drew a save from the Killucan keeper for the second opportunity. Andrew Shaw added four points to his goal and played a key role in the victory. Caoilin Walsh’s sideline pass in the manner of David Clifford’s effort of last week was one of the game’s highlights. Peter Collins took time out from his many administrative duties to don the green jersey and contributed a point to the Shamrocks tally.
Nine Under-19s started this match and we must commend the five players who lined out despite the counter attraction of their Debs Ball later in the evening. But then, we know how convincing and persuasive a character player-manager Gary Corroon can be.
