Under 15 championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-9 St. Loman’s 4-12.
Shamrocks’ under 15 side opened their division 1 championship account in Springfield on Wednesday evening when they faced St. Loman’s. This was a step up for the green and whites after gaining promotion from division 2 and our local rivals were bound to provide a stern test. Shamrocks played with the breeze in the opening half and with Sean Hickey, Zac Coyne, Oisin Gavin, team captain Rory McCaul, Ted Aherne and Hugo Corroon prominent gained a six point lead with Ruairi Kilmartin notching the half’s only goal.
Loman’s emerged for the second half in determined fashion with Sean Byrne and Conor Casey influential and the sides were level, 1-8 apiece after 40 minutes. Loman’s physical superiority began to tell and their subs’ bench made an impact. Hugo Corroon’s 54th minute goal kept the home side in contention but a late Loman’s flourish ensured their victory.
This was a most encouraging display by the green and whites and will give them confidence for the remaining games in the group.
