Junior B Football Competition: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-4 Milltownpass 2-9

A second defeat in this competition for Mullingar Shamrocks with Milltownpass deserving of their 0-5 points victory after dominating for most of the game. The visitors led by 2-3 to 0-4 at the halfway stage with David Culkin, Luke McCabe, Andrew Shaw and Trevor Keena responsible for the Shamrocks’ scores. These were the only points scored in the course of the hour and after the interval Milltownpass kicked five points without reply with the effort of Eoin Gallagher a special one (2-8 to 0-4). Daragh Hughes made a return to service during the second half and impressed during his time on the pitch.

Andrew Shaw goaled for Shamrocks, a goal that came at the end of a superb period of unselfish combined play, something that wasn’t always evident on the night. Luke McCabe volleyed a spectacular second goal and only the goalpost prevented Gary Corroon netting a third goal (for the first time in living memory Gary ended a match without raising a white or green flag). Milltownpass broke for a point and secured the points on offer as both clubs retired to prepare for vital championship matches at the weekend.
