The Late Mary Hyland

Mullingar Shamrocks members were saddened this morning to learn of the death of Mrs Mary Hyland of Ginnell Terrace. Mary, who resided beside the clubhouse and dressing rooms was a great friend of the club and during the great Clubhouse days of the 1990s and 2000s, Mary played a central part in its success, initially supported by her late husband Michael, himself a goalkeeper of note who saw service with Rochfortbridge, the Mental Hospital and Westmeath during his playing days.

The Clubhouse was Mary’s personal kingdom and to all intents and purposes Mary was the volunteer manageress of the venture. She took delivery of orders, managed a set of keys, kept a watching eye on all those who called (officially or unofficially), provided a place of refuge and a cup of tea when needed, cleaned and polished and in truth, Mary Hyland was the one who kept us all on our toes and ensured that the highest of standards were maintained in the upkeep and maintenance of the premises.

The Mullingar Shamrocks Club offers sincere sympathy to Mary’s brother Tommy and to her daughters Síle (Moynihan), Patricia (Blake), her son Michael and to the members of her extended family.

Mary Hyland reposes at Gilsenan's Funeral Home tomorrow (Thursday) from 3 o'clock followed by removal to St Paul's Church arriving at 5.30. Funeral Mass on Friday at 12 noon followed by burial in Walshestown Cemetery.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a hanam dílis.
