Santa’s Party
The Clubhouse in Springfield was alive with excitement on Sunday evening as over 100 boys and girls availed of the opportunity to meet and greet the man of the moment, Santa Claus himself. Santa had obviously checked out the area before arriving under the cover of darkness as he tied his reindeers at the side of the river behind the dugouts where they could graze and drink some fresh water while their master distributed his goodies. Santa had the use of the most amazing Grotto and the help of four very capable elves, Carla Gibney, Eadaoin Byrne, Ellen Corroon and Nicola Groenweld who were especially recruited for the occasion.
Prior to Santa’s arrival and as he distributed the presents DJ Paul Kilbride entertained everyone and kept the music going while the young people waited their turn to greet Santa and had the family photographs taken.
Joan Ormsby put together a great team of helpers for the occasion and it took a serious amount of planning, cajoling and organising to make Santa’s visit such a success and spread so much happiness. The parents too were catered for with biscuits, cake, tea and coffee on offer. Most importantly of all many young boys and girls went home bursting with happiness and particularly Sarah Corroon who was the winner of the most amazing cake ever seen in Springfield, a work of culinary art created by Geraldine Cornally.
