LGF Under-16 League: Mullingar Shamrocks 11-7 Shandonagh 6-15
Monday proved to be another good for day for our Under-16 LGF team in Springfield when the opposition was Shandonagh and in another high scoring classic the girls came out on top. LGF was the real winner with a combined score of 17-22 the players on both teams are due great credit for the attacking skills on display on the night.
The first quarter was played at a fast pace with Shandonagh getting the first two points from play, Shamrocks worked hard and passed well and got two points from Molly Maguire and a goal from the boot of ace goal scorer Grace Daly who finished the night with 6 goals to her credit. In the second quarter Shamrocks stepped up the pace and skill and caught many of the kick outs in the half forward line and midfield. These were fed quickly and accurately into the full forwards who stayed in close range of the goals. Niamh McDermott got a hat trick of goals, Linda Raeside and Molly Maguire added two more goals. The half forwards, midfielders and half back line covered a lot of ground and kept the ball moving rapidly. The half backs swept up everything coming their way for all of the first half and the full back line worked with incredible togetherness and prevented many attempts on goal and left opponents with no option but to go for high scores over the bar. At half time the scoreline read Mullingar Shamrocks 6-4 Shandonagh 0-8
The second half started with Shandonagh coming back strong and getting 4 quick points and 2 goals as we were down to 14 players on the field due to a sin binning event. Shamrocks intensity waned a bit and a few injuries were sustained. Shandonagh scored another three goals extending the margin at one stage to 3 points. The half forwards and midfielders worked hard in the last half of second half and provided fast accurate passes into full forward which gave Grace Daly the opportunity to score 5 goals and a point and Zara Corroon got point from play. Shandonagh scored a sixth goal and 3 more points.
It was a great game of fast paced football. Every player put in a huge performance and as a team they supported each other and came away with the win that was hard fought one.
Congratulations to the team and THANK YOU to the Coaches Johnny, John and Murty.
