Annual Convention

Shamrocks were represented by Terry O’Dowd and Tom Hunt at the Westmeath County Convention. It was a successful outing for the delegates as the four motions proposed were accepted by the meeting. Updated league tables will now be published after each round of the league and championship. The motion to amend the county bye-laws to restrict the transfer of players under-eighteen years of age to instances where both clubs were in agreement was accepted by an overwhelming majority which was something of a surprise.

Two other motions proposed by Shamrocks involve rule changes which will be discussed at the GAA’s Annual Congress. The first limits the suspension of a player sent off in under-12 games to the remainder of the match in which the red card was issued. The second motion will allow an eighteen-year-old play in the inter-county under-20 football championships and the under-21 hurling championships. If this is not accepted then an eighteen-year-old will have no inter-county competitions after 2017.
