LGF Div. 3 League: Mullingar Shamrocks 4-11 Moate All-Whites 2-4
A fine display from the Mullingar girls secured two more LGF Div. 3 league points in this match played in Springfield on Friday evening. Shamrocks set the early pace and in the opening minutes planted 1-2 on the scoreboard with Jodi Aherne and Holly McCormack landing the points and Roisín O’Toole the goal. A great Laura Whitelaw point extended the lead before Moate responded with two points. Points from Laura Whitelaw and Holly McCormack restored the six point advantage which was extended when Zara Gilligan pointed and Jodi Aherne goaled before the interval. The Moate attack was limited to two points during the second quarter the product of some great defending by the Shamrocks girls. When Jim Rock called for half-time Mullingar Shamrocks held a 2-6 to 0-4 lead.
Shamrocks came close to doubling their first half total with late second half goals from Jenna Kelly and Ellie O’Sullivan Sexton. Ellie and Jenna also added points with Holly McCormack (0-3) completing the total. Although Moate scored two second half goals, the Shamrocks defending was most impressive in the second half as Moate launched several attacks that were superbly defended by the Shamrocks girls.
