LGF Div.3: Mullingar Shamrocks II 2-8 Milltown 0-10

Conditions were rough for this LGF Div. 3 encounter between Mullingar Shamrocks and Milltown played in Springfield. A bitterly cold wind blowing directly towards the AstroTurf end made it a difficult night for football. Shamrocks enjoyed the benefit of the conditions in the first half and carved out a 2-7 to 0-3 interval lead. It could have been more but a 10-point advantage is always welcome. Roisín O’Toole began the scoring with the opening point and then added two goals - one scored with the right boot and the other with the left. Holly McCormack (0-2), Tara Fagan, Roisín, Jasmin Haugh and Mia Gilligan (form a superb Michaela O’Connor pass) completed the first half total.

Milltown opened with an early second half point that was balanced by a pointed free by Holly McCormack. This proved to be Shamrocks final score as Milltown gained control and kicked some fine long range points but a terrific work rate and great defending kept the goal chances to a minimum. Katie Kelly saved brilliantly in the final minute to ensure that the league points remained in Springfield.

Mullingar Shamrocks: Katie Kelly; Liveta Lazauskaite (Phoebe Cadwaladr), Siobhán O’Donnell, Sinead Sweeney; Annmarie O’Reilly, Tara Fagan (0-1), Eve Hynes; Laura Whitelaw, Jenna Kelly; Jasmin Haugh (0-1), Holly McCormack (0-3) [Tamara Molloy], Michaela O’Connor; Zara Gilligan (Sophie Russell), Roisín O’Toole (2-2), Mia Gilligan (0-1).
