Salthill-Knocknacarra Tournament
It was an early and frosty 7.30 am start for our under-age secretary Pat Collins, parents, coaches Robbie Boyle, Barry Maguire, John Heffernan and Tom Ormsby and most importantly of all a hard group of footballers on Sunday as they assembled to travel to Galway to compete in the Salthill=Knocknacarra Under-10 and Under-11 Enda Colleran and Peter Burke memorial tournaments. It was a worthwhile journey with tough matches played by both teams. The Under-10s played Corofin, Salthill and Claregalway finishing on the wrong side of the scoreline by narrow margins in all three games; the Under-11 team had great wins against Castlebar Mitchels, Corofin but Claregalway again proved too good in the final. The verdict of the pundits was that Claregalway were a very special team at both age grades. The very young men and the not-so-young involved deserve immense credit for their dedication to the cause. It was severely tested on Sunday morning with frost cracking down.
