ACL Div.2: Ballymore 1-12 Mullingar Shamrocks 1-8
Any possibility of Shamrocks extending their stay in the ACL Div. 2 was ended with this loss to Ballymore (the team Shamrocks beat last year to secure the ACL Div. 3 title) on Sunday morning in Springfield. Shamrocks goaled with one of their first attacks when James Grogan and Gary Corroon combined to split the Ballymore defence and send Brendan O’Reilly through to goal in the third minute. Eddie Casey added a neat point before retreating to the comfort of the dugout and was replaced by Mickey McKnight. Ross Corroon, Darren Keena and David Culkin also had first-half points; Ballymore scored 0-5 and at the interval Shamrocks held a two point advantage (1-4 to 0-5). Ballymore outscored Shamrocks on the resumption and at the end were comfortable winners despite the best efforts of Simon Quinn and the points scored by Ross Corroon, Darren Keena (0-2) and a fine strike by Pearse Corroon.
