Westmeath Ladies LGF Junior Final: Mullingar Shamrocks 5-7 St Loman's 2-3.
Mullingar Shamrocks, trained by Liam Eivers, won their first adult LGF final in Rochfortbridge on 8 September 2001 when St Loman’s were defeated 5-7 to 2-3. The wind played a significant part and Shamrocks used it to maximum advantage in the first half to build an interval lead of 4-4 to 0-1. No time was wasted as Shamrock clocked up three goals in the first five minutes thanks to Tanya Farrell (penalty) and two from Lorraine Cassidy. Anne Marie Newcombe chipped in with two points despite the good defending of Aoife Davitt and Aisling Reynolds. Lisa Burke and Louise Begley dominated midfield, Anne Marie scored Shamrocks fourth goal and Lorraine Cassidy added two points before the interval. Shamrocks were first to score after the break when a Lisa Burke free dropped into the net; St Loman's began a recovery and Cáit Flanagan and Amy Mathews scored goals. Shamrocks responded with points from Carole Finch, Louise Begley and Lorraine Casssidy to complete the scoring. Shamrocks were comfortable 5-7 to 2-3 winners.
