The Australians Are Coming

On Thursday afternoon, Mullingar Shamrocks renew acquaintances with Aussie Rules football when 35 young members of the Wanderers Australia AFL Boys touring team arrive in Springfield to play two Gaelic football matches against Mullingar Shamrocks. The mainly under-16 travelling party departed from Sydney on Wednesday last and flew via Singapore, and arrived in Dublin on Thursday last.

This is the fourth occasion Mullingar Shamrocks have hosted the visiting AFL players who were annual visitors before the COVID virus interrupted the travel plans for a number of years. The Australian visitors first played in Mullingar in 2017, a girls team visited in January 2019 with the boys visiting again in December 2019.

The visitors arrive in Mullingar at approximately 2.00 pm next Thursday, 8 December in good time for the football matches which kick-off at 3.00 pm.
