Westmeath Senior Football Quarter-Final: Mullingar Shamrocks v Athlone, Cuasack Park, 1.00pm
Best of luck to our senior footballers and management team as they play their most important game of the year.
As we head into Cusack Park tomorrow for the quarter-final showdown against Athlone it is interesting to examine some of the statistics of the campaign. Twenty-five players have been used to date with Billy Flynn the unlucky one, ruled out for the rest of the season with injury after playing in the opening two matches. Injury also ended Jordan Warde’s season prematurely at a time when he was showing a rich vein of form that would surely have seen him make his senior championship debut.
Shamrocks have scored 2-70 (seven points less than last year’s 4-71 at the same stage) in the five matches played and conceded 6-39 (4-38 last year). Fourteen players have helped compile the 2-70 scored. The superbly consistent Seanie Daly is the leading marksman with an impressive 0-18 to his credit (he was also leading scorer at this stage last year with 2-14); Denis Corroon is next on the list with 0-14 (at this stage last year Denis had 1-2 to his credit). Patrick Fagan with 1-7 is the next most prolific scorer. Ciarán Curley has contributed 0-8, Dylan McDermott 0-6, Paddy Joyce has 0-5 and Daragh Daly 1-2, Killian Daly 0-4 while six players have popped over a single point.
