Garrycastle Jim McHugh Memorial Under-12 Tournament: Mullingar Shamrocks 3-18 Shandonagh 5-4.
Mullingar Shamrocks’ under 12s made the short journey on Friday evening to face Shandonagh in their third group game of the Garrycastle Jim McHugh tournament. Having secured wins over Cill Óige and Lilliput Gaels in their opening two matches, a draw would have secured Shamrocks’ qualification for the last four stage. The green and whites were determined to maintain their 100% record and an impressive opening half ensured a comfortable half time lead with the side scoring well and showing a decent work rate.
Tom McCaul was busier than he would have liked in the second half and his duel with the talented Josh Scahill probably ended all square. Elsewhere Alfie Rock, Killian Hand, MJ Burke, Fionn Ledwith, Scott Farrelly, Colm Clinton and Carl Keane were to the fore for the visitors who emerged winners on a 3-18 to 5-4 scoreline.
It’s likely that the side will face local rivals St. Loman’s in the semi-final so the classrooms in the various primary schools locally will be full of lively banter over the next ten days. It’s certainly a busy time for this group as they host Caulry in the Division 4 shield semi-final next Wednesday.
