Under-14 LGF semi-final: Mullingar Shamrocks 4-4 Ballycomoyle 2-9
To everyone's surprise, the weather was nice as the girls took to the field against a strong Ballycomoyle team who had previously beaten them well only a few weeks previous.
The girls seemed to surprise them with their eagerness for the ball from the beginning. However, even with this eagerness, it didn't prevent a couple of points happening for Ballycomoyle and an opportunist goal. The backs worked tirelessly in the defence.
A special mention is deserved to the goalie Emily Ford who made some spectacular saves to keep Shamrocks in the match.
At half time the Shamrock girls were losing by 6 points
The second half started with a Shamrocks point and the girls began the fight for the semi-final place.
With fantastic play to move the ball forward from Eabha, Nicola, and Alexa, the
Shamrock girls scored 2 goals. This brought the teams to a level score with less than 10 minutes of play. Provided by Katie Matthews, Grace Daly, and Abigail Molloy.
Ballymacoyle came back for a point and then another.
However, with fantastic assists working from our back through to our hardworking midfield Namia, Caoimhe, and Aya in the last 5 minutes, another shamrock goal!!!
Ballymacoyle never gave up and came back again for a point.
The Shamrock girls held their own at the back, Roisin, Sarah, and Adeline kept it tight at the back line. Ella, Aoife, and Ellie intercepted as much play in the last minutes to prevent any scores, holding onto our crucial point.
A fantastic match for both extremely strong teams.
