Garrycastle Under-12 Tournament: Mullingar Shamrocks 5-10 Cill Óige 2-5
Shamrocks travelled to the immaculate Castledaly grounds on Thursday evening last to face Cill Oige in the opening round of the Garrycastle tournament. Micheal Burke and Emerson Farrelly’s charges produced a fine performance against a well drilled home side to emerge victorious on a 5-10 to 2-5 scoreline. Shamrocks had 18 players in attendance and each player contributed to a good display. Conor Matthews was solid between the posts and distributed the kickouts well, Conor Glynn and the ultra-consistent Killian Hand were tigerish at corner back while Carl Keane was superb at No. 3. Theo Kelly was alert alongside his brother Manus in the half back line alongside the very reliable MJ Burke. Shay Leavy and Scott Farrelly competed very well against a strong Cill Óige duo. In attack, Colm Clinton was top scorer with a couple of well taken goals and Oliver Keane, the accurate Darragh Daly and two hard working wing forwards in Fionn Ledwith and Jamie Timoney made life difficult for the Cill Óige defence. Sam Philips and Eddie Leavy were lively in attack and Noah Smyth and Conan Kelly worked tirelessly when introduced. The next game is a home fixture on Friday 2nd Sept versus Lilliput Gaels while the majority of this side also face Tubberclair away in the under 13 division 4 quarter final next Wednesday.
