Chloe Smullen runs riot.

Mullingar Shamrocks latest LGF match took place in sweltering conditions in Springfield on Thursday night. The pitch showed no ill effects after a very successful stint as a campsite during a very enjoyable Fleadh week at the club.

The home team started well with opening points from Emma Morris followed by another from Karen Hegarty. Ten minutes into the game Chloe Smullen scored the first of what was to be a personal tally of 4 goals and 1 point. This was followed by a second goal minutes later again from Chloe and from then on it looked like it was going to be Shamrocks’ night. Karen Hegarty added a further point from play and Moate scored 2 points in the first quarter. Following a short water break Chloe Smullen was again on target for 2 more goals. Shamrocks added 3 further points from Karen Hegarty, Clara Thornton and Susanna Buckley and a 5th goal just before half time, this time scored by Honor McNamara, to go in at half time with a healthy 5:6 to 0:3 lead.

Moate battled hard in the third quarter and some excellent defending limited the visitors to 4 points during this period of play. Chloe Smullen again scored, this time a point. In the final quarter, the effects of the heat showed on all sides. Shamrocks consolidated their lead with 3 points from Susanna Buckley, Emma Morris and Honor McNamara to run out winners on a final scoreline of 5-10 to 0-8.

This was a well-deserved victory by a panel of players who worked hard from start to finish. Next week we play Milltown, the reigning Senior Champions away in Milltown.
