After an almost three year Covid caused hiatus, the Cumann Na mBunscol competition resumed in recent months and next week sees the concluding stages of the competition with a GAA extravaganza in Cusack Park. There are many young Mullingar Shamrocks’ players involved with various schools in the finals and we wish them the best of luck in their endeavours.
A number of Shamrocks’ coaches also assist some of the national schools with coaching duties. St. Colman’s face St. Michael’s from Castletown in the boys’ division 2 hurling final on Tuesday 14th at 3.00 with a large contingent of Shamrocks’ dual players on duty. The following day sees the boys’ Division 3 final featuring Gaelscoil an Mhuilinn against Clonmellon NS at 4.00 followed by the girls’ division 2 final between St. Colmcille’s Gainstown and Tang NS at 5.00.
Thursday afternoon, June 16th sees Holy Family NS face St. Joseph’s Rathwire in the boys’ division 2 final at 5.00 and proceedings conclude on Thursday at 6.00 when St. Colman’s face St. Kenny’s in the boys’ division 1 final with Shamrocks’ players featuring on both teams.
The finals of this competition showcase the best of Gaelic games with sweepers, blanket defences and negative tactics thankfully absent, these games will not resemble Derry v Donegal. We encourage Shamrocks’ supporters to show their appreciation for our young players’ endeavours by attending some of the above finals.
