Under-14 Football Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 6-6 The Downs 3-11.
On the last occasion these two teams met in the league, a dozen goals were scored divided equally between the sides but The Downs added fifteen points to Shamrocks 0-5. On this occasion, Shamrocks went one better in their points total but outscored the boys from The Downs in the goals total. Goals win matches is an old football cliché and its validity was confirmed on this occasion. After leading by 0-4 at half-time, the physically stronger Shamrocks continued to impress in the second-half and added four goals to their total to secure the championship points. Seán Óg Hynes led the way and scored 2-5 in a great performance; he was well supported by Keith Whaley, Mark Flynn, Niall Ouchbakou, Emmett Walsh and Andrew Shaw.
