LGF Div. 3 League: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-12 Kilbeggan Shamrocks 2-9.

A good win in this LGF Div.3 league match played in Springfield on Wednesday evening. Mullingar Shamrocks were the dominant team in the first half and held a half-time lead of 2-6 to 1-6. An Emma Morris pointed free began the scoring and after 10 minutes the sides were level at 0-2 each before fullback Sophie Hegarty in true warrior fashion arrived at the other end of the field to bang home the opening goal. Jasmin Haugh, who unfortunately retired at the interval with a hand injury scored four points in succession before Kilbeggan goaled. Michaela O’Connor ended a great move by finishing to the net from close range for Mullingar Shamrocks’ second goal. This move began with Katie Kelly in the Mullingar goal and cleared long to set the attack in motion. Mairead Newman had the final point before the interval.

Kilbeggan Shamrocks controlled the second half for long stages but a combination of very good defending, great goalkeeping by Katie Kelly and some wild shooting kept the scores conceded to a minimum. A point and a goal by Chloe Ruane secured a Kilbeggan lead by the minimum margin but five points in succession by Emma Morris were the crucial scores before Sarah Geoghegan scored the final point of the evening to secure the league points for the Mullingar variety of Shamrocks.
