Robbie’s Camp
On my way into Springfield on Monday at lunch time I enquired from some young footballers leaving the dressing rooms if they were in the Cúl Camps and was informed that ‘No. We’re in Robbie’s Camp’. Well Robbie’s camp ended today (Thursday) at 3.00 with a well-earned Papa John’s Pizza party (the nutritional aspects of preparation are for another day!). The initiative was a brilliant success and plyers were encouraged to improve their skills and approach to the game. It reminded one of the old pre-Cúl Camp days when Mullingar Shamrocks organised its own coaching weeks.
The Robbie in question was chief-organiser Robbie Boyle who together with fellow enthusiasts Tony Sheerin, Derek Sheridan, Daragh Maguire, Sean and Sean Óg Hynes organised a four day camp for the club’s under-12 and under-10 players starting at 11.00am each morning. Initially twenty young footballers registered but thirty-six players rolled in to Springfield for four hours of Intensive coaching and mini-matches each day in the various skills of the game. The final day included a session with referee Barry Kelly who explained various rules and answered some very interesting questions from the young players.
Well done to all involved … players and coaches.
