Minor Football Championship: Caulry 3-20, Mullingar Shamrocks 2-4.

There was no joy for our minor footballers in Springfield tonight (Tuesday) as an understrength team was comprehensively beaten by Caulry. The latter had 1-5 on the scoreboard when Shamrocks registered their only score of the opening half, a goal scored by Kenneth O’Reilly. It was an excellent score and followed from good combination play that involved Dj Fedronas, Cathal Crowley and Corey Coyne before O’Reilly provided the finishing touches. Caulry scored another 0-6 before the interval and it could have been more was it not for some excellent saves by Shamrocks goalkeeper Marc Watters. Nothing changed after the interval and Caulry continued to pile on the scores and added 2-9 to their total. Shamrocks managed some well-worked scores and with the last kick of the match, Kenneth O’Reilly scored his second goal when he converted a penalty with considerable style.  Shamrocks had good performers on the night in Marc Watters, Mark Eivers, Thady Joyce, Dj Fedronas, Kenneth O’Reilly, Cormac Hynes and Corey Coyne but overall the power of Caulry led by Liam Maylin, James Bradbury-Hughes, Seán Clinton and Conor McCormack was far too much for Shamrocks.

Mullingar Shamrocks: Marc Watters; Brandon Heffernan, Daragh White, Mark Eivers; Thady Joyce, Sam Gilmartin, Sean Wylie (James Maheady); Dj Fedronas( 0-1) [Sean Wylie] and Dylan Matthews; Cathal Crowley, Kenneth O’Reilly (2-1) Cian Roe (0-1); Matthew Willoughby, Corey Coyne (0-1) and Cormac Hynes.

Our Under-16 girls’ championship campaign ended tonight (20 July) when they lost to Athlone in the quarter-final stage of the championship (5-9 to 2-9).
