John Joe McCabe Cup
On Saturday an under-10 panel travelled to the Navan O’Mahony Club to compete in the annual NYPD blitz competition. Shamrocks emerged as overall champions and won the coveted John Joe McCabe Cup in the process. In their group matches Shamrocks defeated Dunderry, Wolfe Tones and Senchelstown to qualify for the final where they defeated Gael Colmcille (Kells) by two points after a great game of football. Shamrocks were represented on this occasion by T. J. Flood, Shane Egan, Peter Finch, Alex Sheerin, Donnacha Maguire, Conor Heffernan, Criostóir Ormsby, Ryan Kelly, Matthew Shaw, Adam Glynn, Hugh Sexton O’Sullivan and Ben McNamee. On this occasion Ryan Kelly was the outstanding player in a team of stars with full-back Peter Finch a rock of strength. Well done to all concerned. Barry Maguire and Tom Ormsby looked after the team in Navan as Tony Sheerin and Ollie Keating took care of the Springfield Saturday morning sessions. Killian Daly travelled to Navan with the team and this gave a huge boost to the young players as having a member of the Westmeath team Leinster final team on hand to offer support can only be inspirational. Well done Killian.
