The late Michael Conlon …

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of the late Michael Conlon and especially to his daughters Collette, Verona and Dervilla and his sons Michael, John and William; to his sister Maura, grandchildren, brother-in-law Seán, sisters-in-law Nuala and Ollie, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Michael’s funeral cortege will arrive at the Cathedral of Christ the King on this evening at 7.15pm via Mount Street, Oliver Plunkett Street and Mary Street for those wishing to line the route. Funeral Mass on Friday at 12.30pm which can be viewed on the live webcam at www.mullingarparish.ie

Michael Conlon had a distinguished football career representing Tubberclair, St Loman’s, Westmeath and Leinster and was one of the great corner backs of the era and captained St Loman’s to win the 1963 senior championship. His sons Michael, John and William continued the family football tradition with Mullingar Shamrocks. Michael and John were outstanding footballers with Shamrocks during the Golden Years and represented Westmeath with distinction also and winning bundles of senior county medals. Michael emulated his father and captained Mullingar Shamrocks to the senior title in 1992. Ironically both Michael’s had their careers cut short by knee injuries. William also regularly lined out for Mullingar Shamrocks and his sons Jack and Dylan continue the family tradition playing with Mullingar Shamrocks at Under-13 and Under-9 level.
