Mullingar Shamrocks’ under 15 division 3 side notched their fourth consecutive win this year on Thursday last in Springfield with a good victory over an Inny Shamrocks side that fought valiantly to the final whistle. The club’s decision to field two sides at under 15 level this has certainly been vindicated with two excellent performances in both outings this week and crucially 32 players seeing significant game time. Thursday’s display was another fine one with every player again contributing.
This victory sets up a semi final with Delvin/St. Paul’s the week after next. Adam Buckley resumed goalkeeping duties and was alert at all times while his restarts were accurate. John Shaw’s consistency at corner back was matched by Matt Doyle and Brian Wycherly in the penultimate line of defence. Ben Sheerin controlled the centre back position with Andrew Gavigan and Charlie Foy excellent at wing back. Ty Masterson had his best outing of the year at midfield with Ben McNamee in the first half and Paul Keating in the second moiety providing solid support.
In attack, team captain Matthew Shaw notched four points from full forward and Padraig Casey added two goals from play to an excellently taken first half penalty. Ronan Byrne battled hard against Inny Shamrocks’ best player Trian Leslie while Stephen Battle, the selfless Tommy Daly and James Flynn made significant contributions. Subs Jack Toal, Justin Haugh, Hugh Carey, Paul Keating and Shane Egan also impressed when introduced. Mark Fulham, along with the aforementioned Trian Leslie, were very influential for the visitors but the green and white Shamrocks prevailed after a sporting contest.
