Under-19 Football Championship: Lilliput Gaels 3-9 Mullingar Shamrocks 2-7.
Despite the high score recorded, this was the game of missed opportunities as a large collection of chances were spurned by both sides. Lilliput Gaels may even have been the winners in the missed chances count. The combination side held a 1-7 to 1-4 interval lead with Seán Kincaid and Emmet Walsh sharing the goals. A second goal by Kincaid and a point by P Reynolds extended this lead before a goal and a point by Emmet Walsh reduced the lead to its half time margin at the second water break.
Shamrocks dominated the final quarter and launched several attacks. Rian Adamson pointed. A great combination move ended with an Emmet Walsh shot that was brilliantly saved by Seán Jackson and when Emmet pointed the resulting 45 the gap was reduced to just two points. The Jackson save was crucial. At this stage the Lilliput Gaels corner-back Dillon Franzoni intervened and showed the way to his colleagues in attack. Dillon raced up field and scored 1-1 to secure the 3-9 to 2-7 victory for his team.
