The Late Claire Bardon Maher …

The officers and members of Mullingar Shamrocks extend their deepest sympathy to Damien Maher on the untimely death of his loving wife Claire. Sympathy is also expressed to Claire’s mother Patricia Bardon and to her brothers Patrick and Matthew, to her brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, aunts, uncle, relatives, neighbours, and friends.

There was never any doubt about where Claire’s GAA allegiances lay, and she was vociferous in her support of her beloved St Loman’s Football Club (and let’s be honest, sometimes we didn’t appreciate it!) and the various Westmeath GAA teams that she loved to support in Cusack Park and elsewhere where Claire’s presence enlivened many a GAA occasion. Although seriously ill, Claire attended Westmeath’s National Hurling and Football League games in Cusack Park when the Covid restrictions were lifted. Claire was unconditional in her support of Damien in his refereeing and administrative duties on behalf of the Westmeath County Committee.

Sometimes the word tragic is used in relation to setbacks in sport. It should never be so. The loss of Claire at such a young age is truly tragic especially to her husband Damien and to Patricia, Patrick, and Matthew.

In keeping with current Government guidelines, a private family funeral will take place on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Cathedral of Christ the King and the Mass may be viewed on the live webcam at www.mullingarparish.ie.
