Under-16 LGF Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 9-6 The Downs 1-7.

The LGF Under-16 team made the short trip to The Downs on Tuesday evening for the first game in the 2021 championship series. This group of girls have been making steady progress since returning to training in May but unfortunately results did not go their way in the league games earlier in the summer.

It was a dull wet evening but the weather failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the Mullingar girls who were all keen to get back to competitive action. From the start, playing against the wind, Mullingar showed determination and soon registered the first score of the game, a well taken goal by full forward Jodi Aherne, the first of many great scores from Jodi on the night . The visitors never relinquished this early lead and by half-time led by 5-3 to 1-6. The Shamrocks girls continued their dominance in the second half again scoring well and with strong defensive work protecting their lead. The final score was 9-6 to 1-7.

This was the best performance of the season so far by these girls with strong performances from the squad, all of whom contributed to this victory. The team will be back in training preparing for their next game away to Cill Oige next Tuesday.

Thank you to The Downs for a good sporting game played in their excellent facility.
