We fielded two teams in the Under-12 League games last night (18 May 2016) against Coralstown-Kinnegad with the club’s sharing a win each. Both matches were the proverbial games of two halves with the wind having a major impact in the two results.
Game 1:
Kinnegad 4-13 Shamrocks 3-8
We played against a strong wind in the first half and midway through the half we were happy with our play and defending well and only trailing by 0-6 points to 0-1 but unfortunately we conceded two soft goals before half time which left us trailing 3-8 to 0-1 at half time. This might have seemed an insurmountable task but not with this sort of breeze we started the half brightly with a brace of points that could easily have been goals then we did hit the net but the missed chances accumulated and were telling. Coralstown-Kinnegad are a fine side and their teamwork, interplay and running off the ball at times was a joy to watch. Our missed chance were a factor but to say we deserved to win would be a stretch too far as the best team won on the day. Great credit must go to the Shamrocks boys who never once dropped the head or stopped trying for the entire game
Game 2
Shamrocks 6-10 Kinnegad 5-8
This game featured the younger players of both clubs. We played with the breeze in the first half and quickly put up a score of 4-07 to 0-0 score halfway but like the other game this would prove to be be a game of two halves. Both sides took some good score and missed their fair share but again the best team won on the day in this game. Altogether Shamrocks had 40 players turning out for both games a credit to parents, mentors and the boys who continue to participate in great numbers.
