Under-14 League: Maryland-Tang 6-12 Mullingar Shamrocks 3-6

The Mullingar Shamrocks under-14 team despite a battling performance were well beaten in this their first outing of the 2016 season. Shamrocks played superbly in the first-half. Inspired by a fine performance from corner-forward Johnny Joyce who scored 1-4 and goals by Zach Aherne and Keith Whaley and carved-out an interval lead of 3-5 to 3-3. It is easy to lose your way in this age group and this is what happened in the ten minutes after the interval when Maryland-Tang dominated and added the crucial scores that secured a comprehensive victory with a score-line that did not do justice to a good Shamrocks performance. A feature of the second-half was the outstanding display of goalkeeper Daniel Chukwuemekg after he switched to the position.
