ACL Div.1

Mullingar Shamrocks returned to the winner’s enclosure on Sunday morning with a 1-11 to 1-9 hard-fought victory against Caulry after establishing an interval lead of 0-7 to 0-6.  Conditions were far from ideal on a bumpy pitch. It was nip and tuck throughout the first half with neither team able to gain dominance. Dylan McDermott was the most prominent player in the early stages driving at the Caulry defense and was deadly accurate from frees. Indeed, he was Shamrocks only scorer up until the 23rd minute when Kieran Gavin popped over a score from about 30 yards.  Dylan Mc Dermott was again to the fore in the early stages of the second half notching 1-2 in the first 10 minutes. The goal was well worked with Kieran Gavin laying off the final pass.  It looked like we would pull away when Brendan O’ Reilly put us six up mid-way through the half.  Caulry got a goal back following a defensive lapse but we survived and collected the two league points on offer.  Dylan Mc Dermott was outstanding throughout with a brilliant 1-9 to his credit and  was ably assisted by captain Micheál Curley and Kieran Gavin who was back to his best. There were also some encouraging performances from some of our younger players of whom Brendan Reilly showed up well. Team and  scorers: Philly Shaw, Paddy Joyce, Paul Christie, Eddie Moore; James Grogan (Sam Gilmartin), Kieran Gavin(0-1), Michael Curley: Dónal O’ Donoghue and Conor Twomey;  Tye Adamson, Gary Corroon (Ciarán Curley), Pearse Corroon;  Brendan O’ Reilly (0-1), Dylan Mc Dermott (1-9), Mickey McKnight (Aaron Purcell).

Under Age Coaching

There was an excellent group of enthusiastic young footballers in Springfield on Saturday morning when our under age coaching for 2016 began. This continues every Saturday morning from 10.30 to 12.00 and all are welcome and registration can be completed any Saturday morning.

Leinster Under-16 League

Mullingar Shamrocks completed their Leinster Under-16 programme at the weekend and unfortunately were on the wrong side of a 2-9 to 1-6 score against Tullamore in the third and final game of the competition. In all three games Shamrocks played some very good football, two of the defeats were by the minimum margin and the outings provided a valuable preparation for the Westmeath league and championship games to come.

The Shamrocks panel was made up of Brandon Heffernan, Peter Bane, Cian Fox, Ronan McHugh, Cormac Darby, Conor Fitzpatrick, Jack Kelly, Dylan Murphy, Trevor Keena, Cormac Hynes, Marc Eivers, Peter Hynes, Matthew Ryan-Maslin, Dillon Matthews, Robbie Croash, Joshua Haugh, John O’Reilly.
