Open Day and Registration

Arrangements are now complete for next Saturdays (27 February) Open Day and Registration at the Clubhouse in Springfield from 2-4pm. The school visits have been completed and invitations issued. Mullingar Shamrocks officials would like to thank the teachers and schools who facilitated our visit.  All who wish to view our facilities and are keen to become involved in Gaelic football are welcome on Saturday. The regular Saturday morning coaching will commence on 5 March and will be held between 10.30 and 11.45. The emphasis throughout is on the fun aspect of the sport and coaching is provided by qualified coaches working within the Child Protection Guidelines in a safe and secure environment.

Sean Hynes, Pat Collins, Robbie Boyle and their fellow committee members are disciples of forward planning and already the early elements of what promises to be an exciting and fun-filled programme for the young people has been put in place. Sixteen-team Under-10, under-11 and under-12 invitational blitz tournaments have been organised for June 12, June 19 and June 26 respectively; the under-12 tournament is co-hosted with St Loman’s. One of the most impressive aspects of these competitions is the emphasis on enjoyment. Rule 1 of the under-10 tournament is specific on this aspect: ‘Children must have fun, enjoy themselves and have a good time’. Rule 2 is equally specific: ‘Every child must have the opportunity to play meaningful games in an informal, safe and enjoyable environment, have fun and experience a sense of enjoyment and fulfilment and be treated with respect, dignity and sensitivity’.

June is scheduled to be a very busy month for the young footballers as Shamrocks have accepted the invitation from the An Ríocht Club in County Down to compete in their under-8 and under-10 eleven-a-side tournaments on 18 June and 4 June respectively. In May, it is the turn of the under-12 (9-a-side) and under-14 (7-a-side) teams to travel to An Riocht. The under-14 tournament takes place on the 7 May and the under-12 on 21 May.
