Radisson Blu Under-16 Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 3-5 Caulry 1-6
Another fine victory by our Under-16 team in this championship encounter against Caulry. Shamrocks led at half-time by 2-3 to 0-3 with the two goals scored by Brian Farrell, two points from Emmett Walsh and a single point from William Adzangoa. However, without two brilliant diving saves from Sean Óg Hynes and a one-on-one smothered effort the scoreboard would have been somewhat different.
The crucial third goal was scored by Oliver McNamara who got the vital touch to a superb pass from Zach Aherne. Caulry exerted strong second half pressure and a Jimmy Buckley goal reduced the deficit to two points and Caulry were threatening with every attack. Prior to Buckley’s goal, Caulry crashed a penalty off the crossbar but some great Shamrocks defending prevented any further damage. Sean Óg Hynes performed three more heroic acts in this half and undoubtedly his goalkeeping performance was the key to this championship success. Rory O’Sullivan Sexton and William Adzangoa added points before referee Mick Dillon called time.
