'It's nice to get an encore
I go home feeling like a King' ... Christy Moore ..

Memories of the 2004 championship were recalled on Saturday night when Darren Moore paid a courtesy call to Springfield from his New York base. Darren, a minor in 2004 (who incredibly wasn’t selected for the Westmeath team) was one of the stars of the senior championship in 2004. A Mullingar Shamrocks team managed by Sean Finnegan had a great championship campaign and were unlucky to lose to Castledaly in a replayed semi-final in Castletown-Geoghegan when an early shoulder injury to Cian O’Leary proved costly to Shamrocks. In the replay, Darren Moore scored one of the great Shamrocks goals when he chipped the ball into his hands at full pace and buried the ball in the Castledaly net.

At the end of the 2004 season the Athlone Voice newspaper selected an Al-Stars Westmeath Championship team and Darren Moore and Alan Lambden were selected as Westmeath All-Stars.

In 2016, Darren Moore was chosen by his peers as a ‘Rising Star’ of the New York Super Lawyers. Darren, ‘an aggressive personal injury attorney’ focusses ‘his practice on construction accidents, motor vehicle accidents, slip and falls, premises liability and trip and fall accidents’. At he law offices of Michael S. Lamonsoff, Darren ‘is an attorney who relentlessly advocates in pursuit of justice and full compensation on behalf of the firms’ clients. Mr. Moore spends many of his days in the trial courts of the Bronx, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau, Suffolk and Westchester as well as using his negotiation skills both inside and outside the courtroom in settling personal injury cases and obtaining the best results for the firms’ clients’.

Amongst the coaches on Sunday was a Shamrocks legend from the 1990-2000s who brilliantly guarded the net for our senior team for at least fifteen years and won six county senior medals in the process (1990, 1992, 93, 94, 95, 2000) and also served Westmeath with disticntion for many years.  DERMOT RYAN was the Stephen Cluxton of the day (minus the kick-out!) and on Sunday he was with the St Sylvester's Club where his son Charlie was in great goal scoring mood. Dermot's nephew Rory was in flying form and a star man for the Mullingar Shamrocks Green team
