Mullingar Shamrocks Club Notes: 28 May 2018

Radisson Blu Under-14 Football League: Mullingar Shamrocks 8-8 Shandonagh 8-8

An incredible score-line in this sixteen-goal thriller played at Springfield on Sunday evening. Mullingar Shamrocks trailed by 7-4 to 3-4 at the interval but staged a great recovery to reduce the deficit to the minimum with less than ten minutes remaining but Shandonagh responded with two fine points and a penalty goal to establish a six-point lead with the match entering its final stages. However, two great individual goals by Darragh Hughes secured the draw for Shamrocks who had thirty-six players togged out for the occasion.

Darragh Hughes who scored 4-2 was awarded the Subway Sandwich Bar player of the match.

LGF Under-14 League: Mullingar Shamrocks 0-3 Killucan 3-10

We played host to the very powerful 2018 Féile Division 1 winners Killucan in the under-14 league and were well beaten. This was one of those very tough games that make teams stronger and players harder going forward!  The first half was played at great pace and the visitors took advantage of all their opportunities, clocking up 1-4 in the opening quarter but some super defending from all Shamrocks backs kept the score-line manageable until Killucan got two soft goals before the break but not before Molly Byrne put over one of the scores of the night. At the interval Killucan held a 3-6 to 0-1 lead.  Mullingar Shamrocks challenged strongly during the second half but several wides, four shots off the uprights and one penalty miss conspired to undermine their best efforts. The response was great and limited  Killucan to  0-4. The full-time score read 3-10 to 0-4 in favour of our visitors.

LGF Under-12 League: Mullingar Shamrocks 1-9 Milltownpass 1-4

Our girls U12 team lined out for their fourth league match of the season on Thursday evening.  It was a beautiful evening for football and we welcomed Milltownpass to Springfield. Milltownpass started well and with the breeze opened a lead in the first half. At half time the visitors led 1-3 to 2 points. Mullingar Shamrocks regrouped after the break and our defenders tightened up, holding Milltownpass to only one point in the second half.  The midfield and forwards became stronger and took some lovely scores as the game went on, all resulting in a great comeback.  Shamrocks finished the game with a win 1-9 to 1-4. An exciting game played at pace throughout - the girls showed great heart and attitude to overturn a commanding lead and they should be very proud of a wonderful team performance.
