Ladies Gaelic Football, Under-14 League: Clan na Gael 8-4 Mullingar Shamrocks 7-5.

On a very damp, cold Good Friday evening and a testing pitch our Ladies Gaelic Football  Under-14 team lined out against a strong Clann Gaels side in St Oliver Plunkett’s  Hurling Club pitch (Thanks once again for r allowing us use the pitch).  The match provided a fifteen-goal thriller with our girls just running out of time and falling just 0-2 points short when the referee blew the final whistle.

The visitors started the stronger and by half-time had a considerable lead. But the Shamrock girls regrouped at the break and helped by some great performances from second-half substitutes and great leadership from the older girls they fought back and nearly snatched a victory from what seemed a hopeless situation.  The girls all played very well on what was the first time this year they have had the opportunity to play on full size pitch due to training ground unavailability and poor weather. Special mention for Áine McKenna, Mia Gilligan and Abby Smith who were lining out for Mullingar Shamrocks for the second time in two days.

Mullingar Shamrocks: Alisha McLoughlin, Eve Byrne, Anne Maria Reilly (Capt.), Tamara Molloy, Sinead Battle, Áine McKenna, Phoebe Cadwallader, Jasmine Haugh, Niamh Raeside, Abby Smith, Ellie O’ Sullivan, Sinead Sweeney, Molly Byrne, Mia Gilligan, Jodi Aherne, Leah Glynn, Emily Flynn, Zara Dorethy, Frankie Moffatt. Kayla Mennoly.

Meanwhile in Springfield, it rained goals also as an impressively fit and goal-hungry Mullingar Shamrocks team proved far too powerful for a young St Lomans team in a Division 4 Ladies Gaelic Football match.
