Leinster Under-13 League, seni-final: Mullingar Shamrocks 4-6 St Loman’s 3-3.
In bitterly cold Lakepoint Park, Mullingar Shamrocks carved out a heart-warming victory against St Loman’s in the semi-final of the Leinster Under-13 League semi-final on Wednesday evening. Wind assisted Shamrocks established a 2-2 to 1-0 goal interval lead. Shane Ormsby scored a great goal in the opening minute when he fielded high, drove through the St Loman’s defence and crashed the ball to the net. John Ryan added two points from frees before Alex Sheerin goaled following a great combined team move. St Lomans did score a goal before the interval which was a just reward for the home side had attacked strongly during the half but great defending by Mullingar Shamrocks repulsed several attacks. A notable feature of this half was the ability of the Shamrocks forwards to create space (two great goal scoring opportunities were missed) and the ability of the Shamrocks defence to limit the space allowed to the St Loman’s attackers. The work of goalkeeper William O’Reilly was another notable feature of this half.
In the second half goals by Shane Ormsby and Ryan Kelly secured the victory against a less wind assisted St Loman’s in the second half.
