Under-14 Ladies Gaelic Football Championship, Quarter-final: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-5 Kilbeggan-St. Joseph’s 3-18
This quarter-final game started with Kilbeggan-St Joseph’ s taking the initiative and recording the first score but scores were shared equally during the first half with Sadbh O'Brien scoring a great goal for Mullingar Shamrocks. In the second-half Shamrocks recorded a lot of wides from good scoring positions and this proved to be costly when the final whistle was blown. The great work rate of forwards Sadbh O'Brien, Jenny Kelly and Mia Gilligan always caused problems for the St Joseph’s backs but this was not reflected on the scoreboard. A Shamrocks miss at one end was often answered at the other end with a St Joseph’s score despite the excellent defending of Annemarie O’ Reilly and Niamh Raeside. The greater scoring ability of St Joseph’s (and some great scores were recorded) secured them the victory on a scoreline of 3-18 to 2-5.
This match ends what was a fine year for these young girls after a great league run where the only loss was to the strong Killucan side and competing in the Division A championship and giving all teams a competitive game. Most of these Shamrocks girls are under-14 again next year, they are progressing well, and most importantly they are enjoying their football.
