MJS Building and Development Under-16 Football Quarter Final: Mullingar Shamrocks 6-12 Killucan 1-8
In the end there was no need for the fuss as this ‘replay’ which was not of Killucan’s making lacked all of the competitiveness and intensity of the original encounter as Mullingar Shamrocks secured the most comfortable of victories. Killucan’s priorities were elsewhere.
Shamrocks established an early lead with points from Rory McCaul, Hugo Corroon and Ted Aherne. Killucan assisted by a strong breeze dominated possession but their shooting was wayward to say the least, and converted just two of their several chances and trailed by 0-6 to 0-2 at the interval. Rory Kilmartin, Hugo Corroon and Ted Aherne adding three more points to the early salvo.
A run of goals on the restart secured the victory; Hugo Corroon netted twice and later completed his hat-trick; Rory Kilmartin goaled and a brilliant save from Szymon Kasprzak prevented Dean Geraghty from goaling for Killucan. Darragh Ryan with a great finish and Ryan McNamee completed the goal tally before Dean Geraghty got through for Killucan’s lone goal. In the end, the scoreboard read 6-12 to 1-8 as Shamrocks qualified to meet Moate All-Whites in the semi-final of the championship.
