Golf Classic a triiumph ...
The Mullingar Shamrocks Golf Classic held at New Forest Golf Club on Wednesday was a great social, financial and sporting success. Thirty-three teams were present and correct on their allotted tee-box for the 2.00pm shotgun start and after the best part of five hours of golf in glorious sunshine on an immaculately manicured golf course winners emerged. The Patrick Fagan captained team were winners of the non-GUI prize with a superb score of 100 points. In the main competition, the Hunt family combination finished in fourth place with 96 points and travelled back to Waterford with several bottles of good quality wine in the car boot; the Robbie Harrison inspired combination finished in third place with 97 points, Aidan Mulligan’s crew were second with 98 points and the winners were the Eddie King team led by Jim Baker on a magnificent 99 points. Vincent Dolan was another big winner and collected the Taylor Driver available for first prize in the raffle. We can expect a significant improvement in Vincent’s golf once he become accustomed to the latest piece of golf technology.
Participants
Mullingar Shamrocks would like to thank all those who participated and helped to make the event such an outstanding success.
Sponsorships
Events such as these would be impossible to organise without the generosity of the various sponsors. Our main sponsor for this event was The Launderette at the Green Bridge, Mullingar and we thank Alan and Christine Murphy for their generosity and vote of confidence in the club. Fagan Office Supplies were generous in ways too numerous to mention; the many companies and individuals who sponsored tee-boxes and greens as well as refreshments and raffle prizes are also appreciated.
Organisers and Helpers
Patsy Fagan was the organiser-in-chief of this event and delivered an outstanding and successful event with the minimum of fuss. There were several helpers and salespeople along the way including chairman Pearse Corroon and registrar Des Maguire; on the day itself Sean Hynes, Karen Hegarty, buggy driver Jack, Úna O’Donoghue, Paddy Dunne, and Robbie Boyle were responsible for the administration which ensured the success of the day. Their work on behalf of the club is much appreciated.
Finally, thanks to the staff of the New Forest Golf Club for their help and support and facilitating what was a great day for the club.
