MJS Building Services Minor Football Championship:  Mullingar Shamrocks 1-12 Moate All-Whites 0-4

An important victory for our Minor team as it secures home advantage in the county semi-final against the neighbours up the road. Playing against a strong breeze Mullingar Shamrocks raced into an early lead with points from Conor Heffernan, Gavin Pierce and Tye Masterson. After these early points, Moate All-Whites gained a foothold on the game and points from the excellent Aodán Curran and Daragh Murray cut the deficit.  Gavin Pierce added a fourth point which proved to be Shamrocks’ final point before the interval. The difficult wind and the well-organized Moate All-Whites defence limited scoring opportunities and turnovers were frequent as Shamrocks tried to find a way through. Aodán Curran pointed again to bring the interval score to 0-4 to 0-3.

Shamrocks totally dominated the second half and outscored the Moate All-Whites 1-8 to 0-1. Gavin Pierce was in flying form, and a great goal scored by Conor Heffernan, midway through the half, virtually secured the 1-12 to 0-4 victory.

Mullingar Shamrocks lined out the following team: Adam Buckley; Ben Sheerin, Adam Glynn, Matt Shaw; John Flynn, Tye Masterson, Ben McNamee; Criostóir Ormsby, Donnacha Maguire; Paul Keating, Conor Heffernan, Callum Rigney Clyne; Gavin Pierce, Alex Sheerin, Ryan Kelly.
