Clarke’s Bar Junior Football Championship: Mullingar Shamrocks 2-7 The Downs 0-11
Mullingar Shamrocks got back on the winning trial with a great victory over The Downs in Springfield on Friday night. It was a victory against the odds as we lost Alan Cashman to a double yellow card early in the game. In a game in which the wind played a significant factor Shamrocks led by 0-7 to 0-1 at the interval after kicking some great long range points, with 0-3 from Pearse Corroon particularly noteworthy.
The Downs chipped into this lead during the second half but goals from Trevor Keena and Dónal O’Donoghue secured the victory. Trevor cut in along the end line for his three pointer and Dónal with a sublime effort chipped the goalkeeper to seal the victory. At the other end, Philly Shaw pulled off a few fine saves to keep our interests in the championship alive as Conor Fitzpatrick continues to impress with his great defending.
